The Spark Of Fatherhood...

Welcome to my new blog! This is a first for me, so bear with me - I’m pretty sure I’ll end up rambling at some point, but let’s just call it 'stream of consciousness'! I’ve always been the type to reflect on moments after the fact. I don't do much journaling in the moment. Instead, I like to sit with those feelings for a bit and then look back retrospectively…so here we are! Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope this gives you a sneak peek into my life, my music, and my evolution as a dad (spoiler alert: I still have no idea what I’m doing lol).

As for the music, I am very excited to announce a new album on the way…!

Night Light is my most personal work to date, and it’s all about the crazy, beautiful, terrifying experience of becoming a dad. It started back in January 2023 when I found out we were expecting. And let me tell you - nothing prepares you for the explosion of joy (and panic) that comes with hearing that news. It still gives me butterflies.

It was early one January morning when Katie woke me up, tears streaming down her face. I thought, “Wow, did we win the lottery or something?” Nope. Even better - we’re having a baby! Seriously, how does one even react to that? I think my exact words were, “Wait, what?! I’m going to be a dad?!” In that moment, I felt a weird mix of excitement and utter panic (do I know how to be a dad? Do I even know how to change a nappy?! Etc etc…).

But after the initial shock, I realised how lucky I was. And honestly, the joy of it all hit me so hard that the music just started writing itself.

Fast forward a bit, and by February 2023, we were packing up our tiny cottage in Oxfordshire and moving to Hertfordshire. We had basically outgrown our place (our cottage was so small, we joked you could touch both walls just by stretching your arms). So, we settled into a three - bedroom cottage in a small village in the countryside. And let me tell you, that sense of new beginnings had my creativity in overdrive. It felt like a fresh start all around, and that’s when the music really began to take shape.
