Kindred

What began as a creative connection in early 2021 gradually became an ongoing collaboration, with ideas and compositions passing between Jacob and Elliott, and between the UK and Denmark, over the years.

Kindred is the result: nine pieces written from a shared love of nostalgic melodies, colourful harmonies and soft, intimate piano music. At its heart, the album is about connection, between two musicians, between places, and between the experiences that shape us.

As two fathers, Jacob and Elliott found themselves drawn towards music that could hold quieter, more personal moments: music that feels familiar and warm, but leaves space for reflection.

Behind the music

Origins

Jacob Meets Elliott

Inspired by their first in-person meeting, in Copenhagen in May 2023. The piece grew out of a late-night session at Jacob’s studio where, amongst the conversation and music, they stumbled across a simple, sweet melody that stayed with them. It captures something of that first meeting: intimate, unplanned and quietly full of possibility.

The waltz

For When

A nod to a shared love of the waltz, For When is a warm and heartfelt piece with a distinctly nostalgic character. Its rich, gospel-inspired colours give it the feeling of an old hymn: music written to bring people together, offer comfort, and leave a little hope.
