Finding My Feet Cover

I just want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone following my blog. Your support truly means the world! After two years of hard work, it’s amazing to finally share these new pieces with you, and I can’t wait for you to hear the full album (very soon!)...

Writing these reflections is cathartic for me and, I hope, interesting for you? For me, it’s a chance to unload my thoughts about the journey. For you, it’s hopefully a little window into my life - or at least a peek into the wild, wonderful, and chaotic world of parenting. And what better topic to explore next than balance - or rather, the complete lack of it.

Since Alfie arrived on September 25th, 2023, our lives had been flipped upside down in the most beautiful way. Sleep, for one, has been… interesting. To be honest, we hit the jackpot during the first six months - miraculously, he was only waking up once a night. He’d have a little milk, and then head straight back to sleep until morning. I swear, we were sleeping better than we did during the pregnancy. Between Katie’s midnight comfort adjustments and the gigantic pregnancy pillow that left me gripping to the edge of the bed, restful nights were few and far between. (Let’s just say I won’t miss that pillow!)

But fast forward to today, and sleep has become a rollercoaster. Some nights are wonderful, others, not so much. And ironically, when Alfie sleeps well, I find myself lying awake at 3 or 4 a.m., stuck in his sleep routine instead of my own. There’s no balance - just this constant ebb and flow where Alfie calls the shots. But somehow, it’s the most beautiful kind of chaos.

Family in den

The same goes for the balance between work and life. Trying to be a composer while being a dad feels almost impossible some days. Peaceful piano music and a crying baby aren’t exactly the easiest combination to pull off. (Although cooing? That’s another story - album spoiler alert!)

The best way I can describe this stage of life is that I’m constantly moving, always searching for solid ground. No two days are the same, and every day brings new challenges. People say that after six months, you settle into a routine, but my experience has been…not quite that. Life is messy, unpredictable, and completely exhausting. But at the same time, it’s full of joy, laughter, and moments of pure magic.

This week’s single, Finding My Feet, is about exactly this - the constant motion, the highs and lows, and the search for balance as a new parent. It’s one of the most personal tracks on Night Light, and I hope it resonates with you as much as it does with me.
